The SUSC
U8 Academy is in its second year after a very successful
2010/2011 season. We are pleased to say that we had over 20
players from the U8 Academy try-out and be selected to play
in the Spirit United U9 travel program for the coming
season. The technical foundation given to the players
throughout the 2010/2011 U8 Academy season played an
important role in the players showing well during the
try-out process. The goal of the U8 Academy is to continue
to develop a larger pool of technically sound players for
the Spirit United travel program and we have got off to a
great start.
The U8
Academy will consist of four 5 week training sessions
throughout the 2011/2012 season. Each 5 week session will
cost approx. $40 plus an additional fee (TBD) for the U8 Academy
training kit. It is our goal to make the U8 Academy an
affordable program and will have scholarship available for
any families that are in need.
Training
will be provided by the Spirit United Director of Coaching
Sean Mc Cafferty and assisted by
highly qualified & experienced professional coaches from
within the Spirit United travel soccer program. Please see
below for U8 Academy training curriculum:
- Ball control, quality of first touch
- Short & long passing with instep & laces
- Movement off the ball, finding space
- Dribbling, moves to beat defenders, changing speed &
direction
- Shooting, finishing with finesse with instep &
shooting with power using laces
- Basic combination play, wall-pass, take over &
introduction of overlaps
- Awareness of players & space during small sided games
(4 v 4/5 v 5) with emphasis on spreading out & finding space

The U8
Academy groups will be entered into one indoor league & one
outdoor tournament during the 2011/2012 season to introduce
the players to competitive play which they will experience
at the U9 age group at the travel level.
